Because the JP and Collari .12 engines are all crap. Even L. Collari doesn't run his own engines. They are just marketing tools with his name on them. And for the JP's, unless you are willing to go buy a decent carb then your wasting your time. At our track the local Collari dealer gave the engines away free just to get rid of them.

A Rodi or Salven will eat either of them and still want more.

Well, I raced against 4 Salvens a few months back. They were lightning quick. And I have a new Rodi and it is damn fast also.

which Salven are you talking about the 5 turbo or 3 port turbo....?

I am talking about the 5-port Salven. But I have been told from other guys running the 3-ports that they are also giving 3-port Collari's a good pasting.

If those were factory drivers, it may be that the Salvens were already hand modded.

Anyway, the Rodys are suppose to be very powerful too.

I would say so. We where running outlaw at that meeting.

Here in our outlaw class anything goes including cutting the backplate back. We chamfer it off completely to leave it a hollow cylinder and then refill it with araldite further back.

Sorry, but there will never be any pictures of this. Not even members of our local club get to look that closely. I still don't know the full concept yet. It is one of those trade secret's that tuners keep to themselves.

From what I gather it basically alters the Cylindrical Capacity of an engine in a legal manner. All I know is my dad learned it from the Italians at the '77 world championships and that it makes the car go faster. lol. He won't explain it to me in full and probably wont do while he is still fit to modify engines himself.

Perhaps Dennis knows about this and can enlighten us a bit more.

I'm going with mspeed first and then trying the rody so I can verify for meself if they are faster than jp mods and collari's. As far as them being crap...errrr...uhh...ok.

Personally seeing how .21 salvens run I have no interest in a .12 salven.

I would say that the engine is close
to the jp.12. the only thing i did to
engine is run my nova carb because
i'm more familiar with the nova carb
settings. as for the engine being over
hyped i don't think so this is a good
alternative for people that don't want
to spend the extra money for jp's or
rody's. just remember to put a shim
behind the collet so that you wont
damage the bearing like i did i still
run the engine with the bearing leak
and don't seem to have any affects
on the idle or power. just a little messy
as for durablility can't say yet i haven't
had my engine long enough. power
it is good.

I have heard of a PORTED backplate that directs the fuel mixture up into the ports, but never of the type of modification that you suggest.

PopsRacer, did you have to modify the carb or engine when you put the nova carb on the picco, or does it just go in? I have one of the early piccos REs and an extra nova carb.
