Hi:
I've seen that many of you use the futaba s9550 as steering servo. I was looking for a low-profile servo, but not digital. Has anyone use a low-profile servo besides the mentioned previously? Are they cheaper? or should I save and buy the s9550?

The Futaba 9550 servo is a great servo. I used one for about 3 years with no problems. The only thing about it is that the replacement case is expensive. It'a about $25USD. So don't break it!

If you want to wait. the KO PROPO PDS-2413 Digital Low Profile Servo will be out later this month if you are a KO fan. I don't know the price tho.

Other than that, I never used any that is non digital. What radio are you using?

Yeah, I know the issue with the replacement case.... and that's why I was wondering of something else..... as I have a TA05, you have to cut one of the ears, making it difficult to use in another car without replacing the case....

KO I think it will be more expensive than the Futaba...

Anyway, I have a Futaba 2PL and a JR XS-3.... and I use the ta05 with the 2PL, that's why I wasn't looking for a digital one.... and cheaper....

I've got the 9550, haven't run it yet but it makes fitting the electronics much easier.

www.servocity.com has them and they are priced right and free shipping.

The KO Servo will be about $130.

I think Futaba still makes the 9102, it's a low profile non digital servo.

Why not get a digital servo instead? You can also use them on non digital systems. It would also be useful when you go digital someday. Its a bit pricey though.

not sure what rampal needs it for, but that cheap one, just posted, is not fast enough to be desirable for on-road. .12sec or lower i would say. the hitec is questionable for on-road as well for the same reason. then again, for $25, it might be worth it to try one.

long story short - $80 is pretty economical for a digital race servo. add to that the durability/accuracy of futaba, and the fact that it's low profile, and surely this a big winner. some may complain that .11sec is too slow (9550). but futaba does not make one faster than .10, and they have won plenty of on-road races, including the novak, the snowbirds, and the nationals (lemieux and dayger) all in the last three months.

the choice is yours.

Thanks a lot all of you. Right now I have a S148 on the steering, although I plan to race, I probably will no be a "pro" until next year.... so I think I'll buy now the Hitec, that seems stronger and a little bit faster than the Hobbico and later, the Futaba (when money comes to town.... I hope i won't need to buy too much spares due crashes on the interim.... ).

....however, I've just realised that the Hitec HS-77BB dimensions (LxWxH)are:
44x23x25mm (1.7x0.9x1.0")
and Futaba s9550:
41x20x25mm (1.6x0.8x1.0)

so it seems that due those 3mm larger the Hitec won't fit the TA05.

Once again, everything seems to lead to the Futaba.....

Get the futaba, you won't regret it. It's very cheap comparing to other servos, reliable, small, light.

Think, if you buy all that servos before the futaba you could actually have bought the futaba in the first place
