rcnewb2004... yes the gearboxs are sealed. spur gear is the only thing exposed to debris (i also race on a parking lot track).

7 total. 3 for the gear cover and 4 for the bulkhead. (front and back). if you dont run the gear covers, then just 4 screws.

the car comes with two spurs.. 90T and 96T. crappy plastic quality though. so i threw in a RW Racing 96T spur right off the bat. The other went to Rod C... when he started to build his.
jhigga15.. i ASSUME that it wont fit since the evoV has a lower COG and the bulkheads sit lower. so the covers might be too tall.

I don't see why not.... it's something I'll give some thought too... thanks for the kind words over the current one (still meaning to finish off the tips section, not done yet... oh well)
Just had a thought, with my new job, i have access to loads of facilities to do a pucka job on the chassis for this car.... I even have access to pre-preg carbon to build stuff, and mould making equipment... Mwhuaha!
Cheers

Spur and pinion protection
For those who are parking lot racers, or who are just concerned with spurs and pinions being chewed up by rocks and such, i found a very simply method which saved many spurs gears from death I've done this for more than 2 years now.
Just using scrap lexan from your body and mounting it on the screw next to the spur gear. I too race in parking lots and found that this saved my spur gear dramatically, probably reducing 98% of all rocks entering the danger zone
Here is my example on my evo4MS:
