IB3800 with 507 seconds at 30A seems fishy, anyone else seen this before?

Thanks for the info. I can see the variables you mentioned having an effect on the final numbers. I am a bit surprised on the 40 seconds though. If it's that far out, why sell the cell holder seperate? I was under the impression that this machine would give similar results, but in a much slower fashion than 4 at a time out of a turbo matcher.
I only got the one pack to sample, and it's my first 3800 so I have no reference to check it against yet.
Man, that really sucks if the GFX won't give me realistic numbers... that was a selling feature for me..... and an extra $25 or $30 for the cell holder!

I was dissapointed too. It was this way even with the original turbo 30.
The good news is that you are still able to match batteries. You just won't get the same numbers as are on the labels.
Plus, like I said, you will learn that company A's 500 is like company B's 480 (which may be your 430) and have a better idea of what you are buying from company to company.

Don't use a fan.
Don't let it sit before you discharge it.
Set the peak detect at 0.01.
Use the cycle function.
Have the charge settings set for a 200 second delay before the repeak.

You are going to wear your packs out before you race them!
I never cycle stuff anymore. I just keep track of how many MaH are going in and when I see a drop in capacity or if they go soft late in a run I sell them to the stock guys.
Most 3800's take over 4300Mah during charging.
Most matchers that know thier stuff put 500 sec of charge at 6A into newly matched IB packs before they get shipped out. This keeps the cells alive on the shelf due to IB's high self discharge rate.

A 430 cell at 35 amps is basically a 505 or so cell at 30 amps....
430 cells aren't common, but they are not unheard of.....I have had 440 cells at 35 amps....

AdrianM, I was under the impression these batteries take 4 or 5 runs to start to reach their peak, so cycling them 2 or 3 times didn't really bother me. They did have a bit of charge in them, I put them in my smart tray and they were only in a few minutes before cutting out a 0.9V
EddieO, I am just skeptical of this battery as I haven't seen cells over 410 at 35 amps before or cells over 490 at 30amps before. If what you're saying about how hard these cells are to come by, then this should be a killer pack. It should be kept for team drivers, not be given to me to sample and send $55US if I like it to him.
I'd just like to be able to verify that when I buy expensive cells that I am truely getting what I've paid for.

For what it is worth, all of my packs fall between 495 and 505 sec. for discharge time. So they are available

My last shipment, i was able to make quite a few 420, 430, and even a few 440 packs.....the runtime on the last shipment of the IB stuff was really really good...
I wasn't even able to make a since pack under 400.....and I was able to make more packs in the 425 range than I was in the 405 range...
Some battery companies are trying to secure customers, so I would not be suprised if you were sent a really good pack....
And your GFX should be fairly accurate to a TM4/35....itwill be a little bit off, but 40 seconds sounds like a lot....I think Danny said around 10 seconds is normal...
There is an easy way to figure 30 amp runtime to 35 amp runtime.....just multiply the runtime by 30 and then divide by 35.....there is no forumla for voltage, but its add about .015 or so per cell.

500+sec @ 30A is something I would assume all matchers see in the their better IB3800 packs. The last set of packs I bought from ProMatch were all in the 500-510sec range and ran great.

Hi,
Your charger's calibration may be off. If you have equipment which can measure discharge current then check it out it may be actually discharging at 32A when it thinks it's discharging at 30A.

about 6 mo ago i was requesting from Promatch 4-cell pks for me and some fellow 12th scale racers with a emphasis (if possible) on run time for 12th scale. i received 6 total packs packs in the 495 - 512 range, the rest were 489-490ish. they were scattered over 3+ orders. the 511 pack really came thru when needed and the way i drive i could tell the difference between the previous packs from PMR that were in the 486 zone. 15 seconds for 12th scale is like 40 seconds for a mod sedan.
