Just thought I'd ask here...

I plan to run a XXX4 and before I go out and buy a new servo I found a JR Racing 4750 in my pitbox. Would this be a decent servo to run in offroad?

I know there are more expensive servos...digital, more torque/speed. But just wondering if this servo can handle the load placed on it in offroad. All my TC's use KO 2143's so I'm not familiar with this JR 4750.

That servo would do the job, but for a 4wd i would recommend maybe using a servo with alittle more torque, but that depends on your driving and your wallet. I would use a Airtronics 94360 or 94357.

The JR4750 will be just fine. The Airtronics ones just have a little more torque but are about equal on speed.

I run a 4750 in my B4 and it works awesome. It should be just fine for a XXX4

I would give a JR 8800s a shot. I have one in a mf2 and it works awesome. The airtronics 94358 which i believe is 200 oz .1 speed would be the best for the xxx4.

If your going with an expensive Airtronics get the 94357 not the 94358, you don't need 200oz-in of torque for 1/10th! Hell I ran an Airtronics standard servo in my B4 for a month and a half and it was enough, of course 4wd is going to need a bit more power though, so the 4750 will easily be enough, it could be a bit slow depending on your track conditions and your level of driving.

yes the 9550 are low profile. can i ask why they are not suitable for steering?

When I raced my XXX-4, I found that it needs the fastest servo you can find... I ran a Hitec 5925 .08 transit time and it felt pretty good. This is because of the way the steering links, servo horn, and bellcranks are setup: Your servo goes almost full throw to turn the wheels full-lock. This can make a normal servo feel slow and a pretty fast one feel not so fast.

The same servo in my new Lazer ZX-5 feels almost twice as fast because it only travels a little more than half throw to get full-lock. Even a .15 servo feels fast in this car. For racing with the XXX-4, I'd shoot for <.10 transit time.
