Caliper...so hard to get

Caliper...so hard to get
So I'm in the new market for a caliper. I've seen some at Costco with a micrometer pretty cheap, but meh, I dunno how long it'd last. Also I'd prefer a vernier caliper as it measures MM, not the other one with the dial that I'd have to do conversions and such. I heard that one was harder to do and basically I'm just going by MM for everything. Yet so many Hobby stores have a hard time getting these things. What caliper do YOU have in your pit box, the Venier, or standard inch/metric one?

I'm using the digital caliper from Harbor Freight, cheap ($10) and effective. It's going on it's 4th year (just have to replace the battery as needed).

For this kind of tool a hobby store is not the best place to look - try your local machinist supply or one of the large mail order places i.e MSC or McMaster Carr. I've used the Mitutoyo brand for years - very tough, even have a 4" set that I carry to races (fits toolbox ) that I thought had been stolen from the front of my truck while I was truing tires but they had actually dropped down and caught in the radiator mounting bracket and rode around for two months before I happened to notice them.

I hve 2 calipers and both of them Mitutoyo. One is 500-171 and other is 500-196-20 ( both digital). 500-171 is about 6 years old and I use when I work on motors and precision parts. Now I found that ID mesuring part start getting off (-.02mm) so I got 500-196-20 with Certificate. Price for it is $150. if you can afford this $, this is the best you can get-Mitutoyo most precision and most durable i have ever seen.
