Whatever it is, they seem to end up smaller.

FF is the answer to all these talk these days about cars being being too fast and expensive imo. You can only put down so much power, but won't turn into spin outs at every turn like an improperly setup RWD. So it is easier for the beginner, but still challenging.

1/12 scale and rear motor. Kind of cute though.

Lipo/BL tech was a double edged sword. Now the cars have too much power Reason for the sugar coated tracks/carpet "off road" with not one speck of dirt

+1 - Far to difficult to drive; wouldn't be enjoyable for most drivers, new or experienced. Unless ANY new class's primary goal is bringing in new drivers, there's no sense in wasting the time and effort.

Even in 4wd TC, some pros are not fully charging their lipos to 8.4~V for mod in order to tame the car.

When speed is prioritized over skill or knowledge, dumb things happen. Case in point, offroad.

This is a good point that many need to heed. Everyone wants to go fast or be the fastest guy at the track but being the fastest isn't everything. What is the use if you DNF every qualifier and your main because your "fast" car is broken for being so fast?

The other implication is that you'll have someone with a really fast vehicle hitting really large jumps but with no sense of control. If someone is standing in the line of fire, things can get bad pretty fast. I've seen lots of guys think that missed jumps are funny or that people dodging them is funny. I don't find it so amusing. Obviously this isn't much of an issue in onroad but as you pointed out, fast but broken is slower than slow but reliable.

Touring cars (1:1 size cars) are FWD, no? (honda accords, dodge stratus, etc) I too am surprised that the TC class doesn't run a FWD car. They do exist... Tamiya makes one, and im sure there are others.
jlfx car audio likes this.

I've taken a TA02 and put a one-way diff in the front in reverse. It's nice to be able to brake without the rear stepping out, and it's great to use throttle control when exiting a turn. But the front wheels braking at the same speed with no diff action make turn in horrid if you're not slowed down in time. It would be a fun class if enough people were running a car like that though.

TCs aren't necessarily FWD. It just happens that they're usually based on lower-end road cars, which are more often FWD for the last 15-20 years. I think it also happens that with the limited power levels in TC racing, FWD can still be competitive. But RWD BMWs still race in WTCC, for example. Audi and Subaru have run AWD in various TC classes, as well.
