why does it have all that foam strapped in there? Thats completely unnecessary. some velcro on the bottom of the box and a strip on the battery is all you need.

I suppose the foam would help protect the lipo if you were to drop your box.

I converted my Mugen Starter Box to LiPo as well, using two Hobby King Flightmax 4000mAh 2s 25c hard case packs. I have to admit, I should have done it earlier. It's truly amazing how much more power my box has. I no longer fear breaking in new engines (although I do pre-heat them of course).
Nice side-effect: these packs can be run in my Associated B4 buggy, too!

Yes the foam insert is to protect the battery if the box fall.

Iam just in the process of changing my starter box and i will be using a 4S 20C 2650mAh Lipo with deans plugs and also a low voltage buzzer/alarm just to make sure iam not killing the lipo.

Your setup will be similar to mine at the exception of the buzzer.

You'll be amazed by the performance...

haha, you're wife kicks-ass dude!

I agree, LiPo is pretty awesome compared to the old lug gel-cell, here's mine, nearly everything I need in it:

rather than convert the starter box to lipo, why not convert the car to lipo?

Because electric sounds funny, besides, you can't bump-start a brushless motor
