1/8th electric 4wd pan car
Hi friends,
nearly 2 years ago i started a thread in the nitro onroad forum:

I discussed a lot, because i wanted to establish a basic class with very simple 1/8th cars with low effort in maintenance and costs.
One year ago i changed my mind and turned to electric cars, because of many advantages.and less parts again. The thread is still alive and there is a lot of interest.
So i also want to publish my project in this electric forum:
The BURI-Racer E1 is an absolutely minimized 1/8th 4wd electric pan car. The idea is very old: Kyosho and SG had similar nitro cars in the 1980s as a last attempt against the upcoming cars with independent suspension.
The main advantage: There are not many parts to maintain, so the time to maintain is very low, the costs are low - roughly 1/3 compared to the suspensioned cars
But the BURI-Racer is very fast and easy to drive: just have a look at the videos in the youtube channel BURI-Racer!
At last: I want to establish a limited stock class for 1/8th electric - not to compete with the unlimited cars with full suspension. In Europe some of the federations will include this class in their upcoming rules.

What is price on these cars? Went through site but didn't see it. I'm not a racer but pan cars have my interest.

All the races are together with 1/8 nitro or 1/10 nitro races, so the grip comes wihout tire additives
At all, many friends of the BURI-Racer like to drive even on dusty tracks, because its easy to drive and makes a lot of fun

The kit is very impressive, my plan is to run it as light as possible...
First step, aluminum screws and bolts
Then ultra light electronics (540 motor, 120A ESC and 3S battery)
Then carbon fiber rear axle...
And maybe at the end, a lighter carbon chassis...
By the way this is the prototype of the rear axle, with a 48DP transmission support.

Hi guys.
I received my kit last Friday.. Withing 3 hours, the chassis was ready.. I have built a lot of RC cars and this is one of the best that I ever did. The clearances are very precise and all the metal and carbon fiber are very well machined and really good quality.. I like the simplicity of the design.
I'll be testing the car this weekend in Homestead RC Raceway, and let you guys know how the car performs.

all screws titanium and aluminum parts reworked
the rear axle is the original stainless steel one
motor: Tenshock TS SC-401 - 3400 RPM/V diameter 36mm with 5mm shaft
esc: SkyRc Toro TS120A (3s)
battery: 3s 5500 45c
chassis weight with all components 1535g
ready to run: 1880g
not bad for a 1/8th ?!

Who!!! really impressive indeed.. My, bone stock BURI E1, with a hobbywing 150 ESC. Tenshock 2450kv motor and 4s 5200mah, ready for the track weight 2.300gr.

That's very impressive...
I'm still a 1604g in the same configuration as you, but with 1/10th electronics... What kind of refactoring did you do on the bulkheads?
About the rear axle, I've ordered the carbon and I'm waiting on it... I still have doubts about the solidity, especially around the small pins...

Ok, so I received the spur gear and the pinion... Sadly it won't be possible to use a 48DP transmission... Even with the biggest spur gear the corresponding pinion (same final ratio as initial) won't touch !
So now multiple choices:
- Abandon this conversion (it would be sad because module one is very loud)
- Persist and design a fully custom 48dp spur gear... Designing will be easy, but get somebody printed with quality material
- Try to go for 32DP transmission, but there are not a lot of spur gear on the market...
- Redesign motor support, to make it lighter and compatible
I think I won't go for any of this solution before I have the occasion of running the car on our track...
