how to get bearings super smooth?
hi there,
i am trying to make a couple of hub bearings from a losi 8ight that will go in a spare hub and i will try and use as a balancer. i tried it before but the bearings where giving incorrect readings.
but how do you get the bearings super smooth and spin long?
they are rubber shielded and i found this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_yhucQjFBg
is this a good way of getting bearings super smooth?
if there is a different way you are welcome to comment.
many thanks

Remove the rubber seals and clean out all the grease and dirt, do not re-grease them. There will be less rolling resistance without the grease giving you a more accurate reading.

I used to use this method and still found that it wasn't always accurate. I finally purchased the following...
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXD712&P=SM
Since then, I haven't looked back. This thing works perfectly! I just used an extra hub and nut to secure the wheel/tire and go from there. It's saved so much headache.
If you need help setting it up, PM me and I'll send you pics of mine.

boy i dont know i woulnt remmend running bearings with just bearing oil in them on a 1/8 now you can use a little systec red mobil 1 gresse just a little bit but eventually you will have to buy new bearings anyways.
now on a 1/10 to me its not a big deal to run them dry or just light bearing oil because they arent as powerfull and lighter.

Read the first post, they will be used as a tire balancer. That being said, the Dubro balancer is much more accurate. I tried putting the Mobil 1 grease in my bearings but it doesn't help and the grease flings off after a run anyways. Better off buying new bearings for $1 each when they start to get gritty.
read my recent post above you yea i get a 5 pack blue shielded bearings when i really need them.

As 'Reeltech' said, remove the shields and grease. Run them dry...

Is all you really need. 2 drinking glasses of the same height, place shaft on rim and place on top of the glasses.
But yea, a Dubro is a nice thing to have.

So does any one actually read the OP's question before skimming the thread and posting ?

thanks for the help, i will try that this afternoon but if it doesn't work then i am getting the losi balancer.
also my dad reckons that if i take the shields off and clean it out but leave the shields off then they will run better, is this true?
many thanks
