what rotor is std in the 17.5? what rotors are option?

going from boosted to blinky here in sweden and is looking for a good motor for the winter, quite small and technical carpet tracks (usually around 75ft straights) fdr limit 4.0
Personally I would start by turning the timing to 4 and then my final drive to 4.3 or higher (numerically, 4.4, 4.5 etc.). Use the 12.3mm rotor option. Don't follow the other motor manufactures guys and gear down to max 4.0. It will not serve you well with the Plutonium 17.5 Monitor motor temps and try to keep them in the 160-175f range. If you have to push it for a big race and are not afraid of sacrifice....I have seen these motors come off the track at the Reedy at more than 200 degrees f and not suffer much.

These motors continue to impress me. They run cool, are fast out of the box and hold up very well. I've even been running their batteries. Very impressed with everything they have to offer the RC community. They have also released a belt under the "Race opt" name, belt looks impressive and for the price they can't be beat.

17.5 has been good to me all summer. I never feel like i'm lacking speed. I race with Hanulec and can say we never feel beat down the straight or out of the corner. The corner may be due to the shaft car but that's another story.

Got one of these in 21.5 and was running well. In the third heat (first day on the motor), it let go with the magic smoke about 3 minutes in, temped it and it was 160 degrees at its hottest point. Not what I would consider hot for a brushless motor. Anyone else have one give up at 160?

That is really odd. I had a 21.5 that I ran on accident up to 220 and it never skipped a beat. After the oops run I never got it back above 180 but was one of the fastest 21.5's on our track. Never have me a issue and would gladly but again if the need arose. Maybe you got a bad one. It's happens in every brand sometimes.
