Hey guys, i have a 8ight t 2.0 and i need to put the shim kit in the rear diff still. How many shims have you guys found is about right for the rear diff? Or how tight should i get it? I just have a heck of a snap sound when it takes off from a dead stop and i have been told that's cause of loose diffs. Thanks!

Start with 2 on each side then put the rear gearbox set together fully and tighten the screw and check the mesh.you want it tight to where there is no backlash on the gears and. there will be a high spot to where its rough to spin over it.the diff will break in and the high spot will smooth out over time.but you gotta keep checking it and make sure your diff mesh stays tight.

Thanks man! I'll start with that. And what should i feel? by backslash, u mean absolutely no play? should there be a little tick in it like the gear mesh between the spur and pinion gears? Thanks. this is the first diff i have had to put shims in.

Yes shim it tight, no play, they will work in.

I've had upto 7 shims in mine.
The box streaches over time and you just keep adding shims
I also found that sometimes the standard amount of shims wasn't giving me the right mesh so jamming another one in and attracting the box a little gave me the perfect mesh

is this the case with most truggy diffs?

no not usually, thats what nice about the losi diffs. most other truggys use spiral cut gears which on one hand are a lot smoother, but are much more critical on gear mesh.
