3 and 4 gear transmission have different affect with respect to forward traction and on power steering.

I believe the 4 gear adds forward traction and reduced on power steering. This is directly related to t torque of the motor. They do however carry more mid corner speed.

That is why Dirt Oval guys(which have been running mid motor since the 90's) prefer the 3 gear. Traction is usually really high with foam tires.

basically your starting and stopping more mass (extra gear), that is how I read your statement. The serpent allows your to shift the positions of the 3 gear to change bind, so that might even come into play with the 4 gear.

You're kinda on the right track with "more mass"...but it's not the mass of the additional 4th gear in the transmission. It's the mass of the rotor in the motor itself. In a 3 gear transmission on a mid-motor configuration, the motor would essentially be running "backwards" compared to a 4 gear transmission.

With a dedicated MM design, couldn't they achieve the correct motor rotation direction with a 3-gear? You'd be free to orient the output shaft to either side of the car. Or would that still require motor rotation (and the likely timing problems) reversal?

I got the impression he was referring to a purpose built 3 gear that has the same rotation as the 3 gear RM. Not a flipped one. I just wanted to clarify.

Each additional gear would change the motor rotation 180 degrees. Simple physics. The location (left vs right) of the output shaft would not matter. Rotation is rotation.

3 gears and the motor is running "backwards", regardless of configuration. See above.

To clarify...I'm not saying there is a right or wrong direction of rotation for the motor in a mid-motor configuration. Just that an additional gear changes the direction and it's effect on the chassis and handling.

It seems as though it will fit just fine but the width of the side pods means you will get a ton of dirt inside the car and components.

Am I right in saying a 2 gear or 4 gear for the throttle and torque to be forward pushing in MM car and not give a bucking horse type of feeling when you hit the initial throttle? Works pretty good in Centro.

I am really liking the chassis layout. It does not require a LP servo, it looks really balanced and its purpose built. These are all the things I want in a MM car. If it works wekk on outdoor close to medium bite, I for see myself running MM later this year.

Selling my stock sc and Tekno 4x4 to pay for these. Got one coming from Amain and one from Tower. We'll see who gets one to my door first...lol. The 2nd will be spare parts. Never pre ordered before, and most of my stuff I've bought used, but this buggy looks like what I hoped it would when the rumor mill was going strong 6 months ago.

Also, big thanks to my buddy Jason Snyder for making AE fans proud with one awesome looking first post.
