This problem doesn't seem to be unique to the Kill Shot motor. Ever since the introduction of the Revtech motor line, random failures have been reported by many racers despite the motor operating under normal parameters. I'm convinced that the problem is related to the insulation used on the stator windings, or the process used to wind the stators...

Kilkshots are complete and utter garbage. I had 2 fail on me for no apparent reason. One took my orca esc with it. I will never touch another one. Never had a motor failure in 2 years and to have 2 of them blow within a week is just BS.. many others having them blow in the same fashion as mine aswell.

Trinity get your act together and admit you got it wrong.

Are most of the Kill Shot failures occurring in TC's or are 1/12th scale and WGT experiencing the same failures?

Are the RPM or Torque stators failing more often?


Where in the stator stacks are the winds failing?

With the low voltages we use in r/c, it seems odd that these motors are failing so often.

I agree 100%. There's some flaw in the stack design or manufacturing of the Revtech\Killshot motors that causes them to short very earlier in there life. I had 2 Revtech's burn up within the 1st month after i bought them. What's surprising is how Trinity has not fixed the issue as the Killshot has the same problem.

Reedy had a similar issue with the Mach 2 but fixed immediately.

Trinity probably makes the fastest motors out there but the quality is just not there.

Can't comment on 1/12 but I have seen higher failure rates with the Killshot versus other motors in the 1/10 TC class here. I've been a bit lucky and haven't had any of my Killshots go poof on me yet (two 17.5's and a 21.5) but they are pretty quick.

I've seen some go even when they were running cool and/or on a cold day as well. Definitely not overheating as a cause for those ones.

Mine was running cool. I was shocked and disappointed when it happened. I was on pace to finish 2nd in b main.

What is the timing set to on all the motors going "poof"? Anyone care to chime in? I've never ran more than 50' on any motor i've owned and never had a problem

It really doesn't matter what the timing or gearing is, being reasonable. If the motors going to develop a short it will do it at any setting.

Ryan it isn't a matter of heat over gear too high of timing these motors are shorting out. it usually happens in the first two or three race days after that they are bullet proof. I have one I have run since they came out every weekend, I had one that went poof on the second race day and the track temps had cool from the start of the day, and It was only 5 laps into the heat race.

I've seen BRAND NEW Revtechs and Kill Shots go "poof" after 3 laps. It only took me 5 laps to kill my last Revtech. All of the "extreme" examples of failure were installed properly, timed properly, and geared appropriately for the layout. Gearing and timing aren't to blame in these cases - these are failures caused by manufacturing-related defects.

I usually run between 55-60 timing in my killshot, and my motor comes off at 140 degrees at the hottest for 12th scale. I would try to stay under 160 degrees that way you cannot over heat it!

57° timing and below 130°F x about 60 min total run time on the motor in less than a month. => poof!!

I had the same problem with a brand new rpm 17.5. ran fine and cool in practice, then in the 2nd qual car stopped and smoked. I looked and the windings in one area were melted. I was running it in a awesomatix with orca ESC at 3.7 with 58* timing.

I have another one that i have run many packs through from Express and its running strong.
