you'd also need to demel the arewa around the lower shock collars in the arm....with more droop, the retainers will bind on the arm if not dremeled...or you could just buy the new arms.

Yeah...LOL...that too...

But they're the same length and everything else. Unless you looked very closely, you can't tell them apart. About the only part that's visibly different are the upper front arms. The rest of the changes are pretty subtle.

all good info. guys thanks.

I have the Fioroni lower chassis that included some areas that were relieved to increase down travel. I'll check and bust out the dremel if needed.

For those who own the Prospec and 5R (you out there Tony?) Is the measured distance the same? (lower inner hinge pin to shock mount hole)

Thanks again gang!

To convert you'll need the Front & Rear shocks and shock towers.

You will also need the new upper front arms so the nut on the ackerman does not hit it at full droop. Like said above, you may need to dremel the lower arms where the shock relief is. The MBX5R chassis is also notched where the arms come down and hit the chassis so you may need to dremel there. As for the rest of the car, the new R has an updated servo-saver, ackerman and 4mm steering turnbuckles/ends with larger ball studs. It also has a new -1 lower front plate. I highly recommend the R linkage kit too (unless you use a non-Mugen linkage kit already).

If you or anyone else needs the new MBX5R servo-saver, I have one that I was going to put on my old ProSpec, but sold the car. I'll let it go cheap just email me at [email protected]. I also have the new larger 7mm ball studs and 4mm steering link ends I'd sell too. The only thing you'd need is the 4mm turnbuckles (can use Mugen or Lunsford).

Best regards,

Anyone have an editable .pdf set-up sheet for the 5R ???

I'm having some problems with the rear kicking up in the rougher sections and wanted to post my set-up to see if any of you wizards can help at all ??

Cheers

Rod

Carolina's RC has a very comprehensive list on their website that has all the part numbers that are different...

Anyone know the part numbers for the chassis braces from the regular MBx5? I'm running the 5R and I want to try those to get a little more flex in the car over the aluminum ones.

not sure if this has been posted b4,
but i'm just curious...

what's the main reason behind the change in the servo saver?
inverted(5R) vs upright(std 5)?
is it for easier access to the knurled knob?
(tt's what i've been told cos the pros like adjust the spring tension every now and then to suit track conditions.)
does the inverted servo saver really gives more steering compared to the old prospec?

2nd,
what the reason in the change btw the old prospec and newer 5R ackerman steering plate?
the new 5T is still using the old ackerman plate.
(but i'll be using the eck-tec ackerman plate anyway...)

The reason for flipping over the servo saver is so that when it activates, it won't alter the steering geometry. The ackerman plate just has more adjustability.

Do you have a link? Is it in the store or the community? I'm looking to get a Mugen buggy and I'm also wondering about the exact differences between the MBX5, the Prospec and the R.

Some people say the only Prospec upgrades you really need are the front tower, chassis braces and one-piece engine mount. Any truth to that?
