I have been running the same servo, Futaba 9402, since I pulled it out of my B3 to go into the B4 to go into the B4.2 !!!!

I'm in the same boat though, no B5 for me until bugs have been worked out. I can't afford getting new 'needed' upgrades and not to mention new batteries that will fit
From my understanding you have to run a second idler so the car go will go forward. It is the same tooth as the first idler so the ratio doesnt change. Isnt that how real cars work? When you shift to reverse another gear kicks into main gear and everything goes backwards. Thats an oversimplification but it makes the point.

I can remember once breaking a hub in my 25+ years of racing and that was my fault. Aluminum and Carbon are bling, nice, but not needed.
A shorty battery will work and you have the convienience of moving it around for wieght bias.
I will be the first to admit waiting for the FT would be a good thing but cant see why after seeing what this team kit has. Punisher turnbuckles and im on my way.
See you when the FT comes out LOL!

to be honest im not really impressed with AE tin tunbuckles. im still bending them occasionally.

grant it, I race a lot on 1/8 tracks that the trucks were not meant for. And im a total AE guy. But the FT turnbuckles are not thick enough.

so for me I prefer the race kit and it being a little cheaper and I can get something like Lunsford instead.

you can always reverse the motor direction in the esc to go forward with a 3 gear...

+1 I always sold the blue ones and got the Lunsfords anyway.

Hey Leigh whats up?
Im taking about why they added the fourth gear in the MM design since the he said he didnt have any idea why they did that.
When you make a motor run backwards thru the ESC it puts a lot of strain on the motor since it was not designed to run that way.
I dont think it would run very fast that way either

B5M instruction manual is posted up on AE

Edit: It appears it is not working correctly. They have the product pages loaded with some of the parts listed, mainly hardware.

I think most 2-pole motors these days have significant endbell timing and lack of free adjustability. That would make them run pretty poorly in reverse.

You don't even do that. Oval cars have been running mid motor with the b3 tranny for years and just in the last year or so have moved on to other ratios. You literally just turn the gear box around (keeping diff oriented correctly though). Motor plate stays right side but mounts "forward". The weight might be a little forward for optimal off-roading but it can be done.

AE's 4 gear design allows the motor to move "back" more and has a nice mount area for rigidity.

It's working you just need to let the page load longer.

One thing I have noticed that could be improved on (in my mind anyways) is the front suspension mount. How many of you have stripped out the 2-56 screws holding on the front brace? Couldn't we get by with one 2 or 2.5 mm screw centrally and a have the mount keyed?

come to think of it. when I get my t5. I may get me a rtr. main things I have to have is better turnbuckles and a gear diff. by the time I buy those. the FT may not make sense. I can sell the electronics out of a a rtr and come out ahead.

I also have some Airtronics 258's that are strong as ever. Easily 15 years old. I have some newer digital servos too (futaba 9451 and 9551), all the same stuff.

You're comparing a cheap, plastic gear servo with a ti-gear high end servo, not a old servo and a new servo. I said old, not cheap.
