I am running the 61mm with JCONCEPTS tires.

As am I, but we run slicks on high bite. What are the dirt web style tracks doing?

I'm running VTR/61mm/EVO tires in stock and am also bummed that Proline is discontinuing the VTR line.

I've been following the JConcepts thread and it sounds like they invested heavily in their 61mm molds (I think their last 6 or so new tires were 61mm) and now people are demanding 2.2s. AKA's last 2 1/10th buggy tires have been the 2.2 chain link and cross link.

Can't believe old 2.2's may be the new kool-aide.

If you do try the 61mm, I definitely do not recommend the JConcepts wheels. The rears are fine but the fronts have a very shallow hex which is an extremely tight fit on the front axles. I was unable to get them to seat without tightening the axle nut to "press" them on while dragging plastic shavings into the hex and affecting the alignment of the wheel. And it's very easy to get them slightly wrong and mess up the plastic hex. I got so frustrated with them that I threw 2 sets of front wheels in the trash last week. Was able to salvage one pair of Dirt Web tires from them, but lost a new pair of Electrons trying to remove them.

Oddly the JC 2.2 front wheels are perfectly fine.

I prefer the size and shape of the evo tires, but companies need to make the gluing surface thicker/stronger.

I dont care for the JC wheels. I run the AKA evo wheels mostly. They are more durable and have better hex engagement in the front.

Are you referring to the tire ripping? If you glue the inserts to the wheel, this reduces the issue.

It still happens. There just isn't enough rubber there to keep them longer than 6-7 race days.

i was looking at JC tires, guess some, appear from text on amainhobby site they work on 2 sets of rims

"The Diamond Bar carcass has been designed to work on either standard 2.2” or the larger 61mm / 2.4” wheels. The tire comes as is ready to mount as 2.2”, but by trimming the bead it can fit onto 61mm / 2.4” wheels. Bead trimming should only be performed by an expert"

yeah, it still happens. But is does help. AKA and Proline were ripping for me easier than the JC. The JC dirt tech foam might help to support the sidewalls better. Unsure, as I never tried the dirt tech in 2.4 primes/AKA. Personally, I am thinking about going back to 2.2 wheels and tires. They just feel more plush on the track. But the 2.4s do seem to steer better on high bite and less traction rolls.

I ran 2.2 primes with dirt techs front and rear this weekend, they were horrible but not fully broken in. Somehow I squeaked into the A with a blown out car.

i see alot of stock class drivers still using the rear config motor B5 and 22 2 on dirt outdoor tracks. does the B5 use the same diff and lite stuff in the gear box that a mid motor version uses?

They use the same diff, but the top shaft and top shaft bearings are different from the "Lite". I believe Schelle makes a lightweight V1 top shaft though.

AE now sells an updated gearbox for the B5 to accommodate the new topshafts!
