Prepping a Losi XXX-NT for racing - which engine?
So I've been permanently loaned a XXX-NT that I'd like to get running so I can enter another class at local race events. When my cousin gave it to me he failed to mention he'd barely run it at all and has no idea what "break in" means. I promptly took it to the track, race tuned it and ran it hard. Now the engine simply won't stay running. Since I need a new engine I figured I would get something without a one-way bearing that will be competitive in races but still AFFORDABLE! I'll pick up a used starter box or borrow someone's at the track. I don't want to spend a bunch of dough on this thing.
What do you recommend as a good value engine for this truck?

an os cv .12 red head is cheap and good for small track racing or a os cvr .12 or a novarossi cx12

....Or a Dynamite .12SPD.....less than $90.00 out the door and it will push your little NT just fine unless you run on a really BIG track.
As for a .12 being enough motor. If it's an NT RTR with a Mach .15, any of the .12's mentioned will be as good and a couple of them will smoke the Mach. Another thing to keep in mind is ROAR limits engine size in 10th 2wd to .12 so using one will allow you to run a ROAR race with your NT if the opportunity came up.

the stock mach .15 motor is fast and real cheap and runs good too

In the future I also recommend getting your cousins log book so you completely understand what the truck has been through before you go out and ruin a perfectly good RC car. You should be ashamed of yourself.

most kit motors are larger just so they can try and keep up with the smaller race-spec motors on the market

Ha! You should consider giving the car back to your cousin before you ruin it any further.

Yeah, it has a lot of rustler on work bench being fixed. "insert part" broke on first lap.
