Hope you guys can help me out. I've done a bit of searching on this site and found good recommendations for .21 engines. such as OS V spec. My local hobby shop has a Axe Rossi Speed (or Sport, what ever is the newer version) for AU$250. Th OS Vspec is about AU & US $300.

what i want to know is if there is any engine out there for about $150US that compares to these engines. Or is it like the old saying "you get what you pay for".

on towerhobbies i found a hyper 8.5 .21 engine for about $170US... how do you rate these...

I do want to get into racing and i have a x1cr coming from another member, but i don't want to spend the earth to get into racing.

The Sportwerks .21 V2 is a nice motor. I bought a brand new one on Ebay that was a pull off from a new Turmoil. You can also get them from AMainHobbies.

Mine has no problem keeping up on the straightaways at my local track. I know there are other sub $200 motors out there worth checking out(Go-Tech 3 port race comes to mind) but the Sportwerks is the only one I have first hand experience with.

seems like there is a big difference once you get a little past $200. ive heard that the performace sees a big jump once you get to about 220. the go tech seems to be real popular. my lhs also loves the dynamite stuff

bigterp77 i've been looking into some engines and you seam to be correct.

engines under $200 provide about 2hp at 30,000rpm, where as engines over $220 have about 2.5hp at 33,000rpm.

.5hp might not sound like a lot, but on such a small scale thats 25% more power.

so i guess my next question to people out there.

How does the OS V-spec compare to the Axe Rossie sport/Speed engine.

Novarossi NR.21bf. It's Nova's economical club racing engine. They go about $170 and while they don't quite have the top speed of some of the other good engines out there they do have Novarossi's legendary lifespan.

Werks' .21B3 is also a great engine. A little faster than the Nova but also about $30 more.

If you can find one for under $200 the Maxpower M3 is stuuupid fast for a 3 port.

I would stay away from Axe Rossi motors.

I say go with a Go Tech engine because they are really high quality, affordable, easy to tune, also they are the fastest motors I have ever driven. However, Axe Rossi and Jammin' make good motors too. Kind of depends on personal preference really it is a matter of finding what works for you.

The HP numbers your reading aren't a real representation. That being said, I run a Go Tech 3 port, ($125 on Amain) and at 6.5 gallons it runs strong. Don't have issues keeping up on straights and there's plenty of power on tap to clear jumps.

+1, The JPX .21 is an absolute beast of an engine. When you factor in it's cost ($229 @ Amain), it's a hard deal to beat.

I saw one of these run over the weekend, and, they flat out MOVE.. and on as far as top end, as long as your not running huge straight's you should be fine..
