Motor cogging is when the motor hesitate once the throttle trigger is press due to it's inability to rotate due to improper gearing or lack power from a low C Rating battery.

Cogging from Battery: Get a higher C Rated battery that matches your motor Amps.

Cogging from Gearing: Reduce your pinion size until the motor is able to create enough torque to turn without hesitation when the throttle trigger is pulled.

If it is a sensored system it could mean the sensor board on the motor, sensor cable, or sensor port on the speed control have a malfunction.

i'll add one more item related to motor torque and gearing.

If you've turned your motor timing up too high you can also experience cogging (especially if your just at the edge of using the highest pinion and spur gears for your setup).

It's when the ESC is firing to the wrong phase of the stator causing the motor to surge and stop, before going well.

Usually a bad sensor, over geared, weak battery etc. etc. The motor will also get very, very hot quickly, if you continue racing with cogging.
