Whats the consensus of a ESC everybody runs? Im looking for a ESC that will work without a booster or Rx pack on a 1s pack. Also what are pros and cons of doing this?

As far as I know the following are the only 1S (no booster needed) ESC's on the market.

Hobbywing:
Xerun 120A 1S
Xerun v3.1 1S

Orion:
R10 1S

Viper:
VTX-1

Orca:
Vritra VX-1

I run the Xerun 120A 1S. Team CRC has them on sale for $99. You cant beat it for the price or performance. It has won a lot of Nationals. It is competitive in Blinky or Boosted.

The RM01 owns outright track record on the rug at TQ

And I heard of it owning at other highly competitive tracks as well

imo, 12th scale racing is more about tire treatment, precision build details, and driving, not chassis of the week

i.e. virtually any car can win, if the operator knows his stuff

Best not to discuss too much of RM's on this R5 thread (and I do have a few awesome R5's too)
MOre discussion about Tamiya HERE
Awesome, Thank you im just gonna buy and RM01x

I picked up one of the new Xerun v3.1 1S...this thing is beautiful. Haven't had it on the track yet but everything included in the case is VERY nice!

Second club race meeting with this car and it was pretty much dialed with Rick Howhart's world's setup! I won all three races with a few laps over the competition! I race on asphalt, the only thing I need is more traction out of the corner and then it will be on rails! If I make the rear end narrower will this help? Any other suggestions will be more than welcome.

Cheers Kev

3 of us ran our 12r5.2's Fridaynight for the first time. Its a local short carpet track, 17.5 blinky.

These cars are tough, smooth , and planted! Really no bugs, shakedown cruise was great.

Only one thing came loose, one of the side dampeners popped off, snapped it right back on.

It seems to me that its not nearly as twitchy or darty as other 12th scale cars I drove. The whole car , especially the rear end feels very well planted.

Nice car!

I am curious as to preferred battery for this car and class. We run 17.5 blinky on a short/tight carpet track.

I have been running ThunderPower 5400 65c packs exclusively.A nice tight fit, and good enough to win the Main last night.
Is there a noticeably better battery choice out there?

Hi
Just got a 5.2 and wondering what does lifting the outer damper tubes do?
Thanks

Modding the battery stays?

Looks like they dremeled off the battery stays off the top plates on the one side. Has anyone done this and any adverse effects?

Wow, I am going home and doing this tonight! You will be able to get the batt in and out without having to take the front upper plate off!

The only adverse effect is that the tape might tear and you battery can fly out if you side swipe a board on that side really hard. Putting double sided tape under you batt would reduce the possibility of this.

You want them level across the chassis.

You could do all sorts of wonky things but level works best.

Why level as opposed to angled?
