Yokomo MR-4 TC Thread

ottoman, you probably have the silent belt in, if so, do not soak it in WD40. It will ruin the belt. Mine was the same, but is just starting to loosen up now. I guess it's something we just have to live with.
Yokomo Fan- I have to buy the carbon in sheets, so if I milled out more, they would just be little pieces and be wasted. It is the cost of manufacturing them that is the biggy though, and making more cutouts would only take the engineers more time.
Cosmo, just drain the oil, and gently push the black spacer up from the bottom, then you can push everything out. You might need to replace the small stepped black spacer at the very bottom, and the o-rings. I think the AE shafts are wider, so the shock seals probably are too...

Cosmo,
Buy the shock maintenance kit YS-7-1 it should be cheap(It is here).
As Josh said, just push all the spacers out from the bottom of the shock. I had to do it for the first time last year, it looks a bit tricky til you actually do it, then it's over in a flash.
Ottoman,
Again, as Josh said, don't use WD-40 on the belt.
The belt will break in faster using a modified motor, as opposed to running stock.
Rumour here, is that the SP conversions had a different front belt compared to the first full SP kits, whether that is true or not, who knows.
I have a belt tensioner on my car that works(Torque rod), I think everyone has seen them on the factory cars and they do make a difference.
Here it is anyway.

The conversions didn't come with belts, remember?
I have been running mod for a while now, and the belt has definately loosened up a bit.
The theory is that if you have a tight belt, you end up with faster acceleration, while with a loose belt you get more top speed. This seems to make sense, though I just like the feel of a loose belt.

Simon:
I put a torque rod on my car and it seems to work by forcing the top deck into the front bulkhead which the moves the front diff (or one-way) to tighten the belt.
How tight do you make the turnbuckle - i.e. how many turns from the turnbuckle being loose?
Doe the torque rod also affect the tension on the rear belt?
Thanks,
YJ

Well, I can't get the shock maintenance kit here. We can get 3 parts for Yokomos - front arms, rear arms, and front belt. Everything else I have to order. I was hoping that another brand will fit. I guess I'll just go and try all the different size o-rings.
On another note, does anyone know the spring rates of the Yokomo springs? All of the setup sheets I've seen for the car use Yokomo springs obviously, but I don't have those. A set of the fluorescent green springs came on the car, plus a pair of orange springs. Also, we got a closeout deal on Yokomo springs and I bought 4 different pairs - Black (40.0 rate), Green (35.0 rate), Yellow (30.0 rate) and White (25.0 rate). In the setups that call for green springs, which ones are they calling for? I have the whole set of TC3 springs which seem to fit fine, and I was going to use them, but I need some sort of reference between the two sets of springs.

If you scroll down past the Yok spring rates, you'll see a comparison graphic.
The conversion from grams/cm to pounds/inch is .0056

Yeah, I tested the springs, measure the length, and 20 percent from both extremes and the machine tells ya.
The softest GT4 spring is 21lb, MR4 orange is 22, green, 19, yellow 16. Obviously the springs are in 3lb incriments, so you can go from there.

I like the TC3 for its throttle control and the simplicity of its drive train. I'm running stock now and the Yok just ain't got the same umph out of the corners.
Biggest reason though is the throttle control.
The Yok is a great car, maybe too much car for me with the one ways - I'm still a newbie at racing the thing.
Thanks,
YJ
