I bought a starter box but it has problems starting the engine. I think the engine has high compresion and the box can't push it past TDC. Is there a differant starting setup that I can use. Nothing worse than getting the RC all ready to break in, but can't get it to start.

heat the engine with a heat gun first to about 200 degrees, then start it

and if you still have probelms after heating crack the plug loose a hair untill you start it then tighten it

This is the starter box that I have, is this not a good one. I got it used online. I got a new 12volt battery and everything.

Roy, it would be best to take it to the track and ask help from the experienced guys over there before you ruin your vspec. They could also show you how to break it in properly. Getting a new engine started is only half the battle. You will need to break it in properly as well so it would last a long time.

I'm aware of the break in, but my starter box can't get the moter past TDC and even after heating the engine. I think that maybe the starter box might not have the torque that I need.

Most likely. If you are going to get a new box, go for the OFNA truggy box. It will turn any engine out there. Do a search at Towerhobbies to see what it looks like.

that box should turn it over with no problems, is the battery fully charged?

Does the start box have a belt with gear reduction drive? I had one and it struggled to turn over my LRP .12 in my GT2 even after break in. The box that I have used since starting in 1/8th R/C is a direct drive set-up, rubber wheel straight of the motor shaft. This thing has never let me down, it has turned over VZBs and Ninjas first time even when cold and tight. This box has some major torque, you can feel it want to twist on the table.

Make sure the box is turning the motor over the correct way (when looking front on to the engine, the flywheel should spin anti-clockwise).
Heat the engine.
Make sure there is fuel.
By hand, move the flywheel backwards as far as you can so the box has a little run up before TDC.
Attempt to start it.

With a new engine, always pre heat and always move the flywheel backwards to give the box a change to run up. You can also take the glowplug out completely and spin the motor for 10-15 seconds to make sure there is fuel lubricating the engine before starting.

That starter box has the same giant motor as the one I have in mine,(ofna-
10255) the motor is so strong I think I can start my real truck with it. I plan
to buy the 10250 box and use it on my mbx-5r. Check to make sure it is
properly aligned and the wheel is not touching the chassis. I've had mine for
about 5 years and never had any problems.

Also make sure your box is timed right; The motor should start spinning about
2 seconds before the starter motor wheel touches the engine flywheel.

I got the engine to tu rn over but the battery in the starter box gets weak real quick. But things are looking hopful.

it'll do that until the pinch isn't so tight.
nuke the battery for at least 24 hours and then give it a go.
