Does anyone know if silencers are available for this platform. If so, does it really do anything?
I was looking at a thread for the Baja 5b and saw someone who had a dual exhaust set up with twin silencers. Looked and sounded great. Just wondering if it was possible to do something similar with this platform.
I have a Inferno GT2 BTW.

You can look at the first picture and see the existing track layout from a satellite view. You can imagine the existing straightaway extending into the expansion area ending in a sweeper. Then there will be some as yet to be determined right and left turns leading back to the existing track just before the white line where the timing loop is located. The original straightaway length is 165 feet/50 meters, it is expected to be increased to about 280 feet which converts to about 85 meters. The original total racing line track length is 650 feet/198 meters is expected to be increased to about 950 feet which converts to about 290 meters.

This picture shows the expansion area for where the extended track at Homestead RC Raceway will be. The blue van is dragging concrete blocks to grind off the sharp edges of the asphalt. Later this area will be pressure cleaned to remove the sand, dust, rocks and whatever other type of debris that may be on the surface. After the area is pressure cleaned, weighted tires will be dragged to add smoothness and actually add rubber to the racing surface. All of this is being done to help reduce tire wear and increase traction. If you look closely you can see where the color of the asphalt has started to change color where the blocks have been dragged.

This picture shows the area where the fence and fence posts were removed. You can see that the fence post holes have been filled and smoothed. You can also see the simple rig made from 4X4’s that was made to drag the concrete blocks. Later more blocks were added to cover a larger area.In the back ground you can see the grandstand area for Homestead Miami Speedway. You can also see the blue chalet tents that will be used for the racers and mechanics pit area.
A big thank you goes out to Duncan Chin and David Duperrouzel for all their work in heading up this part of the project this past weekend.
Our intention is to make sure everyone attending The Ipanema Sports 2010 GT1/8 GT World Championship on March 19,20,21, will have a fantastic race track to compete on along with a great time and making new friends at Homestead RC Raceway facility.
Only 54 days to go!

question for Doug M
I was wondering Doug, if you plan on moving the drivers stand to the new center of the track? You also said that you grind the new asphalt and drag the track with rubber tires, wondering if the rubber takes place of seal coating it? Thanks for the hard work you and your crew are doing to make this event top notch!!

We are not dragging blocks (grinding) on new asphalt. This asphalt is very old. As asphalt ages it develops a lot of sharp edges over time so by dragging the blocks it will remove a lot of the sharp edges that create a lot of excessive tire wear.
We drag the tires to help smooth the surface even more and it will actually create a groove and improve traction. It is not necessary to seal coat the surface after these procedures although we will go ahead and do this so it will match the existing track and look a lot better in all the pictures that will be taken.
Jeff Vargas and many other driving forces are working very hard to organize an event to insure the racers will have fond memories of for many years to come whether they win or lose. The crew at Homestead Raceway just wants to make sure this is carried out and help produce a race track that will meet those standards.

Homestead progress photos
Here are some more pictures showing the progress at Homestead Raceway as we prepare for the Ipanema GT World Championship. Please remember this is a work in progress and is much like watching a house being remodeled, where it looks very crude until all the paint, decorations and fixtures are installed.
Picture 1, this is where we left off last week with the surface being prepared.
Picture 2, shows a roughed in layout after measurements were taken to get things lined up.
Picture 3, go-kart tires and escalator handrail made it much easier to rough in a layout.
Picture 4, this is the short chute coming into a lefthander coming back into the existing track and across the timing loop.
Picture 5, the perimeter barrierss have been put in place.
The rest of the progress report will be in the next post.

Homestead progress photos
Picture 6, now the track crew is getting serious about working on the infield barriers.
Picture 7, racers are still using the original circuit as the track crew continues to work on the infield barriers.
Picture 8, the infield barriers are now in place.
Picture 9, this photo gives you a good view of the expanded track area.
Picture 10, the hardest working guys at Homestead RC Raceway who accomplished all of this in one day! A very big thank you to (L-R) David Duperrouzel, Duncan Chin, and Joe Chin.
Over the next few weeks the expanded area will be sealed and striped. The drivers stand will be relocated to the outside center and the pit lane will be moved and reworked. If possible I will try to post photos as things of importance happen.
