The major difference is that the dx3s uses the original DSM tech and the dx3r uses the newer faster DSM2 tech.

The dx3s has telemetry that the R doesn't. The S comes with a free second receiver where the R doesn't. The S of course looks different, has 10 model memory where the R has 30 model memory.

There are a few more things that can be found here when you compare the two:

The S has telemetry, which is the ability to transmit real time info back to the radio. Info like temp's, batt. voltage and RPM. It is a standard 2.4ghz DSM radio. Some of the locals I know that use it have had some problems breaking the antanae on the reciever.

The R doesnt have telemetry, but its DSM2, which has a faster response time compared to the standard DSM radio technology. The R also has a bigger screen, and a few adjustments that arent available on the S...

They are both great radio's. But the S is geared more towards the basher market, and the R is more of a racers radio.

I have the S and I am getting alot of use out of the on board battery voltage, and I think the temp will be nice. I don't even plan on hooking up RPM. All in all I am very happy with the S, and I do race.

Right now I have a DX3S, but I'm thinking of giving it to my wife and buying a DX3R since it's backwards compatible. I really dig these new DSM 2.0 MICRO receivers.
