Well, I've done some measuring and this is what I've come up with.

Evo5;
Distance between steering posts and suspension blocks = 38mm
Wheelbase - Shims behind arms = 1.0mm
Ackerman Spacers = 1.0mm
Total = 40mm

MRE;
Distance between steering posts and suspension blocks = 37mm
Wheelbase - Shims behind arms = 3.5mm
Ackerman Spacers = 0.5mm
Total = 41mm

Basically, this shows to get the MRE and Evo similar, you need to run an extra 1mm behind the ackerman ball stud. (N.B. I'm using the hex-headed ball studs, which are 1mm shorter than the standard type).

So I'm going to run this next weekend, along with D/D on the front... should hopefully solve the mid-corner steering problem I had last time out.

I`ll have to cut down the Plastic Battery Post and use a Small Snap Pin(Body Clip) on the Rear Post.

Hey surrealmaterial; I don`t use 48-Pitch Gears.....I can`t help you on that part.

I really don`t know what to set the Front and Rear Droop on. I have the Front Droop at 6 and the Rear Droop at 5.
-I can`t find any Pro Set-Up Tips for the Evo 5 at the Tamiya America site.

Anyone have any Droop Info?

Thanks

Some pics for you

First two, shows the screws on both cars that I measured the distance between (rear two, steering posts, front two, suspension block).
Second two, show the ackerman spacers (red arrow), and wheelbase spacers (yellow arrow).

What I've done is assume all other measurements are equal, so effectively by adding thoose three variables together, I can figure out exactly the difference in ackerman between the two. A large total number means that the longitudinal difference between inner and outer l joint is larger... effectively putting the steering link at a greater angle.

Because the spacings are different on the two cars, the ackerman setting is different, which affects the way the car turns. I'm trying to get my MRE to handle as well as the evo on the rug, so hence why I've added spacers.

I have here a rolling Tamiya Evo 5 chassis for sale. The chassis is like new, only drove 2 times! Car is really as new! No electronics included! I can make pics for you if interested! Make me a nice offer and the car is yours!

Can I assume TB02R's strap is same as the plastic one?

TA05 strap fits onto Evo5.

Wish Tamiya had supplied CF parts as standard for strap & bumper,
why did they stop doing it after EvoIII?!? Cheapskate costcutting...

WC, I know that a TB02R strap fits as my friend has one on his Evo4 which I tried fitting onto my Evo5. If the Evo3 strap is different from the TB02R which I didn't think it was, then, it may not fit. The best bet is to just buy the lighweight set for the TA05 & use some o-rings or may your own spacers to use with the aluminum posts. This is what I am currently using on my Evo5 which used to be on my Evo4.

yep eIII's strap is about 5-6mm shorter between holes.
(never could find this sparepart when I broke one of mine yrs ago.
Couldn't use a TB02 strap as its too long so I had to
get one custom-cut as a replacement.)

eIV uses TB02 strap, as does TA05.

Just tried TA05's CF strap and it fits eIV, does not fit eIII.

To use ladders in e5 gotta do some surgery to the stickpack cradle yea?
Cradle's mount holes are different to the similar part in eIII/eIV so
can't just borrow the eIII's non-cradle mounts onto the e5.

Hey wrxnfx and wc; Tamiya would have did us a favor if they made a Carbon Battery Plate and Carbon Bumper Plate(I would have paid more.....no problem).
-It looks like Tamiya doesn`t want to put any more Carbon on the Evo 5. They came up with the Plastic Battery Plate and Bumper Plate Set(49398 - 49399).

The TA05 Carbon Battery Plate is what we`ll have to settle for.
-But I`m not doing any hard changes on My Kits.

I need some Droop Set-Up info; anyone have any?

Thanks

Looking for opinions:

Seriously thinking of purchasing a forum members EVO V setup, but I'm wondering how much better is it really over the EVO IV which I have now (and made the A-Main with at this past weekends TCS race).

Any comments are appreciated.

i used to run the Evo IV MS before i got the Evo 5. the cars are very very similar. it's easy to come out and say the Evo 5 is better 'cos it's newer. it boils down to how you can exploit the new layout of the Evo 5. i have managed to get myself alot faster with it than the MS.

i would say go for it! you are an A Main driver, seems like you will be able to take full advantage of the Evo 5!! do it!!
