Shipping container as drivers stand...help
A while back our track got vandalized, and now we just got a shipping container to use as a stand. We need some ideas for the stairs and railings. We're need to get it up and running ASAP so we could really use some ideas on the above, even better, some pics would be great.
What we have in mind so far is to sheet the top with plywood, then probably weld on some perches to mount 4x4 posts to on the 4 corners and every 8' or so in between. Then 2x4's for the railings on top of the 4x4's. For stairs we may be able to salvage the wooden ones from the old stand, then weld on mounts and such for set them up. Not sure on that quite yet.
The club has limited funds now, but have quite a bit of lumber on hand. The price of steel now is going to make it tough to build the rest.
thanks in advance.

i somewhat see ur dilema....the only time i races on a Ccan was at the canadian Nats...and they had a Local welding company rig up some Fancy pancy alluminum stairs and made up square tubing as the rails....but im sure to have it done on a non sponsorship deal would cost u guys a fortune....but it sound's like your on the right track with the tabs for lumber.

Rat raceway in Denver uses one. They have the computer inside in it's own airconditioned room with windows cut out.

Check it out in the photos. They put a tarp over the driverstand when racing. Plus a computer screen outside so the pit guys can see whats going on.
It's a nice set up.

Here's a front view of our container driver's stand. I couldn't find a pic of the stairs or the ramp on the back but I think you can get an idea.
One amazing feature that it has that you can't see is the roof slopes backward into a gutter that funnels into about a 1000gallon tank (that's a guess but it's about 5' in diameter and 10' tall). Every inch of rain that we get will net almost 200 gallons of water that we use to water the track.
