Questions?? How to locate and drill holes in a lexan body

Hi all, I have two new bodies that look great. That said, I have to cut them out, cut out the wheels, mount the wing and finally mount the body to the car. I have the body cut out and the wheels went ok with just a few misques Now I am trying to punch the holes to mount the body to the chassis. What is the best way to do this? I do not want to mess up the body anymore than I already have, but I am lost. The car and body are a 190mm touring car. thanks for any help.

YOu should always do your drilling and cutting before you paint your body's, i do that every time and they come out perfect. All though Stormer hobbies has little cups that slide over the body posts that have little LED's in them that shine through the paint, they work really well also..

Or may try a little tape on the body in the general area of the post hole, then a dab of paint or sharpie on the post-carefully set the body in position ( may take few tries) and the paint/marker should transfer to the tape....

The holes are almost always marked with a small groove. Simply take a flash light or a bright light and hold the body slanted against the light and you will see those grooves.

I always mark mine before painting the shell. But in case you don't have the chance, we have a glass coffe table and putting the rc on the table with a light underneath makes it easier to see what you're doing and get the holes spotted in the right place right.

Lay the body down on a flat surface, roof side down. Flip the car (truck, whatever) over & onto the body using the body posts to support it. Line everything up the way you want to. Then mark from the insides where the body posts are & drill!! Doesn't matter if the body is painted or not-still works great!!

I did not have the luxury of marking the holes and wheels because I had a gentleman paint the bodies for me. The process is coming along nicely and I appreciate all the input.

what i did when i messed up and painted first was take the stock body or one that is already drilled and laid it on the outside and stuck a marker inside the drilled hole and marked the new body. when you remove the body, you have 4 holes that's marked.

Thumbs up

Brenda, This is a new chassis, it has never had a body on it. That sounds like a good idea that I may try in the future, thanks.

The best way is to MARK the holes with a sharpie on the protective film while the car is clear.
Then AFTER painting, before you pull the plastic film off, drill them. B.E.A.utiful.......

I used this method and it worked great. I could say that I have learned my lesson about cutting the holes before painting the body, but I do not paint my own bodies. Thanks for all the help, Bob
