Theres a huge advantage of shaft at my track. Sealed diffs! with a cover over the spur its almost impossible to get a rock to mess up you drivetrain. I've seen soooo many Xrays, yoks, losi's, shucks, get rocks stuck in a pulley and jam the system... better for me! My evo3 has a shaft. BEST for my track!
But I have to agree, Belts are better...I have grown fond of the grindage of plastic belts, popping of bearings from the strain of a seized pulley at full speed, the squeal of the tires as the pulley puts full brakes to one side of the car and slams it into the corner... I love belts too, they let me win.

Car looks really nice, and I've been pretty successful at my track with my Evo4. The revised steering system (wish I had a better idea of the design?) is probably the biggest upgrade to the car. This has always been my biggest complaint with the car, and am glad to see that Tamiya has addressed the issue.

Thanks TryHard. Yeah those pics help, and it looks like it will now have the needed additional steering to be competitive in stock racing.

it's only the wishbones that are different, hubs are off the LW suspension.

Looks very interesting. There are a few things that put the Evo at a disadvantage.
1) torque steer - This is more a problem of all shaft drive cars and more with larger powered motors and/or on lower grip surfaces. On high grip carpet I didn't have a problem even running mod but it is noticeable.
2) countersunk upper deck - This car needs it. I did it to mine and all of the tweak issues went away for the most part.
3) small bearings in hubs - I understand the concept of the LW suspension and reducing unsprung weight but sorry, this bearing size is beyond critical mass for durability/reliability.
4) spur gear swap - Man is this a royal PITA. I even got the Square motor mount and it still doesn't help. No matter what you have to take all of the center posts out (if you are running them) and retweak your car.
These are issues I think Tamiya's engineers should tackle first. I can live with a higher CG and not the best steering ackerman but IMO they should stick to the fundementals first. That said, I still dig my Evo and will use it for stock/spec class any time.
BTW, I get to run my EvoIV for the first time in a long time this Sunday... woohoo. It is our new spec class with 540J and 3000mAH stick packs. The Evo should be perfect for that class.
