Recently there has been some talk about using graphite grease on drive pins to extend their life.

I'm wondering if you could not just use graphite grease through out the vehicle instead of using green slime. Or is there specific places that the green slime would be better?

Also, when you are applying the graphite grease to the drive pins, is it worth putting it on the outdrives as well?

I apply green slime to all shock o-rings. black grease to all differential o-rings, and graphite grease around the CVD coupling. I do not see a benefit to applying it to the drive pin itself and would avoid graphite grease elsewhere as you would want something thicker to properly seal both diffs and shocks.

Green slime is specifically designed to be used on O-rings. It reduced stiction and improves seal quality. Dry graphite lube or O'donnell wax lube is good for use on exposed parts because it won't allow dirt to stick.

What about on the ring and pinion? Can you use it there instead of black grease?

Green slime is NOT meant for any metal to metal lubrication.
