Default TB-02 cnversion

Starting off I am not all that familiar with Tamiya on road cars. My buddy was given a TB-02 subaru and he is trying go VTA racing with this chassis. Its brand new, and to me it looks very similar in design to a Assoc. tc3-4 and should work fine but the first problem we are running into is gearing. We want to run a brushless motor and at our local track im seeing various cars with a FINAL drive ratio ranging from 3.8-3.3 when running 1cell lipo & 17.5 brushless. Unless im reading the manual wrong the closest we can get is 5.72 or around that. I have seen a TB-02 to TB-03 conversion kit for 90 bucks is this what im looking for? It looks like the motor mount in that kit is the slideing adjust type. Can i switch to 64 pitch gearing with that? Can this car be converted with out spending a fortune? Ive seen the 415,416 cars and they look bad a-- but $400+ is not an option right now. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Default Noise in Front End?

Hello, I recently completed a TB-03D kit, with the non-IFS front suspension. It is a very smooth running car. However, I'm noticing a high pitch 'squeak' coming from around the front wheel axle assemblies that increases in severity when the wheels are turned left or right. Installed are the Tamiya front on-way unit with 42mm dog bones.
What might be causing this noise, and is it normal for this setup? I'm new to Tamiya cars. Thanks to everyone for any help.

Ciao, when you are building the tb03 you must pay attention to coupling the transmission pinion shaft with the diff. If too much play between pinion and diff you can have lot of problems. You must assembly the diff case with diff and pinion, then check the transversal clearance of the diff, the if more of 0,2 or 0,3 mm you must shim the diff in order to reduce such clearance.
Anyhow if you check previous post there is one of Timmie that explain it much better then me.

Ciao

Default RE: Noise in front end

Since the squeaking noise from the front end of my TB-03D did not improve after running thru a battery pack, I investigated further and found it was coming from the area where the wheel axle, 1050 bearing, and part C1 (inner) meet. Sprayed some lithium grease on this area for both the left & right, and voila, noise gone!
When I get the chance to replace the front dog bones with universal shafts I'll check to make sure the bearings aren't already going bad. Don't know what quality of bearings Tamiya includes in these kits.

RCGT spec TB03R wins the Surf City 700 3 hour endurance race yesterday!

"0" issues with the car. It went the whole distance on one set of Pro compound X patterns and handled great all day with the new ALMS M3 BMW body from Tamiya.

Pictures coming soon!

Ciao Timmie,
last week end as i told you i raced the first round of the italian championship, the race was on carpet surface, permanent track with very high grip, tire additive on full tire surface both on front and rear tire.
I used the 3racing chassis, very bad choise, too rigid eith the consequence that i was 2 seconds slower than 2 weeks before when i was there to make some tests with the original chassis, next time (i don't know when) i'll test it on asphalt and i hope to have a better result.

Ciao

^^^great looking TB-03

This weekend I will be racing my TB-03D at Trackside for the TCS event. I feel really competitive in GT-1 and I can't wait to see what happens! My brother and best friend will be racing their TB-03D's too. I feel this will be my best run since I started racing TCS in 2006. I'll give the update after the weekend!

will the titanium screw kit be a weight saving, as the original ones dont seem like steel.

The screw supplied with the kit are of first steel quality phillips type, personally i prefer the hex type.

Hey Tamiya-heads,

How does the TB-03R compare to a TB-Evo V (non-MS version)? I was thinking of getting a TB03R, but came across a good deal on a used Evo V and considering picking it up...I would be using it for the stock 17.5T (outdoor asphalt) class as an alternative to my TA-05R.

Are parts hard to come by for the Evo V? Any major weaknesses in the Evo V? My only experience so far with Tamiya on-road has been with a TT-01 and my current TA-05R.

Thanks in advance!

The Evo V is a much better car overall. The only advantage the TB-03 has are its sealed spur/pinion for outdoor racing. The TB-03 has an Evo V drivetrain and is meant to be more entry level. That said, I finished 4th in GT-1 at the Trackside TCS this weekend against Evo V's and 416's. Should have finished 3rd overall but got in a late wreck in the final main.
