Yep, bolt right up.

I've been running mine for months. I have the aluminum set.

Now when you smack the wall with the rear wheel the side plates don't break.
It will kill your bearings, axle, wheels and will even pop the endbell off your silver can motor!
I run the steel axle now and those are the end results to my wall smacks since the carbon and aluminum axles are now long gone.

I don't mind, I just keep bearings handy since I can't stay off the wall, too inviting to pass it up.

I modified the axel adjuster/eccentrics to allow for more ride height by filing down the adjuster right down to the bearing which allows the axle to ride lower in the side frame. I take up the extra space by installing a set screw into the top of the plastic adjuster.
Works well, I can now run my foams til they scream for help.

so do i need the COMPLETE F104 gear box, or can i just get the F104 aluminum side plates?

Depending on your purposes, you may not want the 104 gearbox. If you want to run any TCS races, the 104 gearbox is illegal for the 103. Otherwise go for it.

51243 F103GT Gear Case Set is what you need if you want to stick with 103 parts. The F103 metal motor mount will take the place of the plastic motor mount from this set.

good point, didn't even consider that - was just trying to find a way to get the better motor mount, then couldn't find the update gear box

I haven't heard of the left side F103 aluminum side plate to match the "heatsink" right side motor mount plate.
Is this a real deal from Tamiya?
I see the 51243 as the plastic set.
Aftermarket guys make em, I knew of them.

Also, Fred allowed the F104 plates on my F103 as well as others for the Nationals last year.

It was not considered a modification since it is stock Tamiya issue.

Does he still feel the same? Not sure but don't see why not.
I was sketchy on it til he ok'd it.

I just saw that Fred posted that the F104 axle and diff assembly MAY be used on both the F104 and the F103 as it is a hop up option offered for both chassis.

The aluminum F104 motor pod MAY NOT be used on the F103, only the F103 parts may be used.

Now I'm really interested in finding out if there is an aluminum left side gearbox from Tamiya for the F103!

lame, they know there is no alternative... board slaps on non-drive side = doom for TCS events (though to be fair, not an issue @ the AV track)

what's the 'c' body supposed to be similar to? i remember seeing something about how they handle compare to the 't' and 'm' bodies

As far as I know there is no left side metal 103 plate. I was talking about the motor side metal plate. The 51243 set is plastic, and is what he needs since I think he has the old non adjustable axle height plastic parts. The 51243 is adjustable.

I think it is the Sauber??? as Ithink the T was the Tyrell.

what brand of rubber tires is everyone running on their F103?

anyone try the new F104 rubbers? how do they work/mount up on the F103?

i haven't raced mine competitively, so i'm not into all the different 'which works best' ideas so any help would be appreciated

this isn't for TCS racing, just some racing over the summer

Had a big problem tonight. Out of the blue my 103 (foam carpet car) started hooking on off power left turns (turn in). It will get worse as the tire sauce wears off.
I found no tire problems and the diff.feels good. D.rate on the tx has been the same.I would guess the car got tweaked but could not see any issues.Where should I start looking?

Best tire I have found for the F103 is made by RIDE...

You can get it from RC Market... There is ALWAYS a 2 week back order, recently that turn around has been as much at 6+ weeks... yikes...
But there worth it...

1. There's probably too much weight on the right rear and not enough on the left. Tighten your left tweak screw and loosen the right until the weight is balanced

2. Check your right front suspension and make sure there hasn't been some massive failure- spring collapsed, whatever.
