The power panel still has a voltage of 12-14.4v at the end...that's 12-14.4v to the glow plug BUT it has very very low current...much much lower than 1.2v ignitors which tend to give as much current as the battery can produce.
Imagine the difference from a small AA battery and the D battery some guys use.The difference in the current could be up to 3 times more.
This can ruin the glow plug any day.
Plus the power panel has a regulator to adjust it according to gel cell and stick packs.
It also has a light that enables you to monitor the "life" of the glow plug...no light no glow!!!!

Regarding the battery example: The difference between an A and D battery is capacity. If you put a 100mAh load, for example, on an A or D battery, it's going to draw 100mAh from either.
Basically, you can put voltage to a circuit, meaning you can put 110v to anything you want (for better or worse, lol). But you can't really put current to a circuit, you can only limit the draw.
I'm not trying to be argumentative. I'm just confused by your explanation.

The voltage on the tip of the glow ignitor is 12v-14.4v i measured it with the voltage meter so in order to keep it from burning up i suppose they use some kind of low current supply.
You are right about the glow though...it does draw as much current as it needs...the only case my "case" would stand is when the draw is very high and the smaller battery can't keep up with it which is not the case here.
I guess the plug draws anywhere from 5-10A/h, so there shouldn't be any difference.

out of all the Ingnitor's ive had ......the best one has been the Cheepo venom...My Lhs got a supply of them with meter's that did not work...so they sold them for 5$ a peice.....ive got about a dozen.....1/2 still in the packaging.....they are only 1500mah Nicad's....but they seem to outlast even the Fancy Racer's Edge 4200 Ignitor's....for the price i couldn't complain...and being Lime Green....they are pretty easy to spot on buddy's pit table when yours has mysteriously disappeared from your table.

My Losi starter box isn't using the two banana plugs on side of the box because I am running Lipo batteries. I was thinking of wiring a high capacity 1.2v Nimh pack to those connectors and running the glow ignitor off of those rather than the through the power panel. I posted a thread on here a while back about the Ofna power panel I have, it still puts out 12v when connected to a gel cell. I decided it wasn't worth destroying glow plugs over so I abandoned it. But now I'd like to use that glow ignitor with a small separate batter in the box.

That sounds like a pretty good idea. You could use multiple cells wired in parallel for even more capacity.
