whats the minimum mah i could run for my rx pack opn my rc8 and make it through a 20min main - i have 2 hitec 5955tg servos

I can make a 45 minute main with a freshly charged 800mah pack but im only running one 5955 and a 5985, I also dont run a regulator wich may be helping out with my runtimes as I can run higher volatge with lower draw (or at least thats what I was told)

I run 1100 Mah Ni-MH packs our qualifiers are 7 minutes, and mains are 20. With two qualifiers and all the practicing I do I always just throw in a fresh spare pack that I have for the main.

Nimh drain faster than Lipo but an 1100 should go about 45 minutes MAX before needing fully charged again. An 800-900mah Lipo will go 45 with a "LITTLE" bit of room to spare. The local pros around me use 900 mah practice all day long, go through quals, top off the battery and then go through the 45-minute A-main, and then finish running out the fuel in the tanks for several more minutes, playing around on the track. They don't even worry about it.

I use 2,000 mah lipos cause I have the vehicle on a lot, for tuning and practicing. And after a whole day of racing (about an 1-1/2 hours) the pack only takes 1200-1500mah to recharge.

Thanks for all the info, I dont think i have anything to worry about then with 1100 mah.

Do you guys use regulators(BEC) on your lipos, or is it ok to just run the straight 7.4v?

Is anyone using AAA battery packs on their buggies.
It's only 70gr when the 2/3sub-C is 120-140gr.
I was wondering though whether the 1100mah AAA is capable for 1hour main.
On the 1/10 nitro it does fine.

I do use regulators, but just to be on the safe side. Only thing I've heard is the servos won't last as long. But I don't have the money to do THAT kind of testing. LOL. When a lipo is fully charged the voltage is 8.4v for a short while and it starts falling off to around the 7.4v range. Then it holds there for most of the pack until it finally dumps, which is super rapid. That's where people with stick pack Lipos get in trouble. The keep running the vehicle, like to bring the vehicle around to their feet and pick it up. That's a no, no. If your vehicle or the vehicle's servos slow down and don't respond like normal. SHUT IT DOWN, right where it is. Just stop and turn everything off. Go back and charge the battery.

I used to use a 850mah AAA NiMh Rx pack made by Trinity Racing. It was good for 30 minutes in a monster truck with two Airtronics 358 servos.

But I only use LiPo Rx packs now. They are lighter, last longer and are more consistent.

I have a Lipo 1350 form Thunder Power, with NOVAK regulator, I have 2 Futaba digital servos 9451 and no problem for 1 hour mains
YES I charge if for the mains!!!!

The regulator is Novak #5460, I just dont like the on-off switch, I would like to see something more robust for 1/8 buggy. I had an issue with the wires unsoldering from the vibration(on the switch) but at the end NOVAK has great stuff.

Do you know how long it would last on a full charge.
I'm considering the team magic 1100mah or the GP 1100mah.

We usually run 35mins Amain but we could go up to an hour at some events.
Do you think it will last an hour or i'm better of getting the new AAA 1250mah and solder them my self?

The ultimate LiPo set I've found is the Common Sense RC 2-Cell 1500 mAh. It's the same size as a standard hump pack, and fits most all 1/8th buggies and truggies. This LiPo will offer over an hour of run time with an apropriate voltage regulator...They only cost $25.00 which is the same price as the NiMh battery...

I run the Common Sense 1500 also in three of my vehicles. For the others I use the Protek (Amainhobbies) 2000. For regulators I just use the Protek ones also. These all take quite a beating and for the last year I've been having good luck.


I have finally switch all my stuff over to Lipo. It took a few months but I'm finally there. Starter boxes(X3), Transmitter, off-road buggy, on-road buggy, truggy, 1/10 gas trucks(X2), 1/10 electric truck, 1/10 electric buggy. All Lipo and happy so far.

I don't think you'll make 60 minutes even with the new 1250mah cells. The problem is the cells are not able to handle the high spikes as well as larger cells when you apply the brakes. So they drain faster than a 2/3A or AA cell.

I do know that the 1200mah HT Batteries LiPo is only 62 grams and will go an hour in a 1/8th truggy. But it is long so it may not fit most radio tray boxes. I use the larger HT Batteries 1500mah LiPo's in my MBX5R or MBX5T when running them in nitro form.
