Will I need head shims on OS V-SPEC if running 30% Nitro
#2
Its advisable, the manual says to use the extra shim for 30%.

I just bought a CEO Powermods Vspec from Chris O'Donnell. He told me as long as it stays around 250 degrees or lower don't worry about the shim. before the CEO I had a stock Vspec with no shim. On a hot day(high 80's), running 30% Losi Nitrotane, my Vspec would come off the track anywhere from 210-220.

No shims and 30% runs sweet.

If its around 75+ degrees outside switch to a P6 plug and you'll be fine. I've had good luck with .1mm added and running a cooler plug.

Without using the extra shim on 30% nitro the engine will run fine, very aggresive powerband from bottom to mid. Using the extra shim will give you a better top end, smoothen the bottom and mid and give you better fuel mileage. The V-spec is one my favourite engine. Currently still have 4 of these excellent engine. Will try out the OS speed version soon.

man, you are just the oddball around here. First you're not using the smallest carb insert and now you're not running the extra shim. I betcha your car would be easier to drive and have better fuel economy if you ran the extra shim and the smallest insert See ya sunday

Went from 20% to Werks 30 %
Well I switched it up this weekend. After talking to multiple people I decided not to add the shim. I was using ODonnell 20% and I ended up getting Werks 30%. Holy Shizznit. I could tell a big Diffrence. On the 20% my motor was running 230-240. After filling the tank w/ 30% and no needle adjusment my motor was running rich and slower and came in at 180-190. I leaned it out a bit and it started to wake up. After a few tanks i was able to lean it probably 3-5 hours and it is running freaking awsome. Hauls Balls with awsome power band. Coolest thing is that it comes in around 200-210. My V-Spec is great now. I have two other V-Specs one is a JP modified and I cant wait to see what they baby runs like on 30%.
Thanks to every ones comments on the topic of Head shim needed.
After Doing the switch myself I have learned that you do not need a shim when switching to 30% Nito and your motor will run awsome.
I also learned that the Werks fuel lives up to what people are saying. It does run cooler w/ more power.
I also exsprianced that going from a JP3 pipe to an OS 2060. The temp dropped 15-25 Deg in the motor, Dont know why but it does.
Later guys, Patrick
