I wouldn't sweat the LiPo standard Chazz. The Orion/Peak and FMA packs are designed to fit existing vehicles. You could design your own battery configuration around your vehicle. I envision batteries that are integrated into the chassis.

Battery trays on the Losi and AE buggies are flat. Our chassis is slotted to lower the batteries. Further, we have vertical ribs between each cell to help hold them and increase chassis stiffness. Therefore, we're not sure the LiPo cells will fit.
If we get rid of the ribs the LiPos will fit, but we want the stiffness. What's a mother to do? (From an old Campbell soup commercial.)

Chazz, maybe you've thought of this already. How about making an insert that conforms to the bottom of the tray and is flat on top. The extra weight of an insert would be offset by the lighter lipoly batts. The hold down would have to be something that could have a variable height in order to fit the various size packs and cells available. A thought.

you can also get lipo saddle packs.I had maxamp make some for my bj4.I am sure they could make some other configurations also.

We're thinking about using little rubber pieces with a peel-off sticky back to go in the slots and a battery strap you turn upside-down to hold the LiPos.

if you flipped the motor. and took out the idler gear and made a large diff small spur gear maybe you could push the engine back further and one less gear in the tranny equals less rotating mass i'am sure stock guys would love a 2 gear tranny.

There's another video now up at www.4wdrc.com from the CRCRC MidWinter, this time with Paul driving the X - 6.
Also up is an interesting podcast with Curt Schlister, track builder, telling how they built the entire track from scratch in one day.
