hey guys, i just got done read all 18 pages. awsome forlm. i am new to nitro , i have run electric offroad buggy/truck for about two years, and i am looking to get into this area of rc, i would be racing at arc racway, i have a few ????
Are the blue bird BMS-660MG servos any good? here are the specs;

i'm not looking to be the fastest guy on the track i just want to have fun, be somwhat competitive, and have reliable equipment.
i am on a tight budget and i can't afford two $110 servos, thease are only $41.95 ea., with dual heatsinks but i don't know? i think you always get what you pay for.
also i hear people talking about gel cells in ther boxes not woking in the cold? is this true for arc racway? i have no idea how cold it gets there.

I'm going to try out two Ace DS1015 servos to replace my Airtronics 359 and 360. I hear very good things about them and for the price, they can't be beat.

I have been running Ace servos for two years they are awesome.In my 8 I'm running a DS 1015 for steering and a DS 1211 for throttle you can't go wrong.

but they are still 90 ea. i can buy two airtronics for $200 - $20 discount from tower hobbies + 8.99 s&h i almost rather spend the extra 10 bucks and get the name brand airtronics 94358Z servos. just a thought, correct me if i'm wrong? are hitec servos any good for 1/8 scale i heard they don't center properly? also has any body used the starter box in my post? i'm tight on money and that seems like a good buy. thanks for the info

Yeah, you can spend that extra $10 on an inferior product. Just because Ace is not known by many, it does not mean they are not a "name brand". The 358's will work, but lately the quality of Airtronics seem to be degrading. I am speaking from experience and I know others that had problems with Airtronics servos. I know someone that purchased a brand new 359 and it was dead out of the box. Airtronics is not what it used to be. I have 2 older 360's in my B4's and both have been flawless and has been in use for 2 years.

So just where do you send an "ACE" servo for service?

I know where Airtronics, KO and Hitec are located (I could find Futaba if I needed to) and you can call them up or drive there and talk to someone if you need to. All three have kick-ass service and they all have racers in-house...that means a LOT.

for canada, you just send them to Hobby Craft Canada (the canadian distributer), and they will bascially replace it no questions asked, i've seen it a few times where the distributer is at a race, and some one has a problem, and he just hands them a new servo, and thats it,

i can't say for sure, but I'm sure Ace Hobby is the same way, since Hobby craft gets them from them in the end anyway, http://www.acehobby.com/ace/index.htm

i've had airtronics, futaba, JR, hitec, and IMO the ACE are as good or better than any of those brands, especially for a truggy, my truggy ate servos for breakfast the first half of this season, i broke two JRz9000's, a futaba, and an airtonics 94358, until i put an ace ds1211 in it and it ran the rest of the season with out a problem,

one thing i've noticed, my airtonics 94358 servos i ran in my 8th scale buggy, which i bought this year, they have developed quite alot of back lash in the gears, and thats for two seperate servos, one run in my buggy, one in my dads buggy, where i've got a 2 year old ace servo, and its as good as it was when new, basicaly no back lash, and still super smooth, i've also heard the ace servos are one of the best for current draw, so your batts last longer,

the 358 and 359 airtronics will develop backlash over time because they are aluminum gears. You really shouldn't use them for steering in an 1/8 scale because they will wear out.
