Get the Serpent SRX-2 or SRX-4 gear diff. Fits perfectly with a couple shims. It is twice the price, but easily more than twice the quality of the Losi gear diff. Trust me. I would love for TLR to make a quality gear diff (and I would switch to it because I like keeping things factory), but there is no comparison between the Losi and the Serpent right now.
I don't see any reason why you can't recycle the kit diff parts and buy the bi-metal outdrives (#16025) and bi-metal hubs (#16072) separately.
The screw in the bi-metal kit measures 26mm long from the back of the socket head to the tip of the threads. I would double check the length of the screw in the kit diff is the same length. I'm not gonna take my diff apart to measure it anytime soon.

I have ran Novak, Tekin, and Orion. The Orion is the smoothest and best feel out of those 3 and what I run. Novak is closed so there is no support left plus I didn't have much luck with them . Tekin is a good brand never had issues with them. I have heard good things about the Reedy and Hobbywing just never tried them myself

Stock or mod? I really like the Hobbywing stuff: affordable, but not cheap. For mod, get the 120A v3.1 ESC and V10 motor of your choice. They have a brand new ESC, but the v3.1 is plenty adequate and now a little cheaper. For stock, get the v3.1 stock spec (or the Justock if you will never need to run timing or boost.) Also grab the programmer box.

I have ran Hobbywing, Viper and Tekin. I stick with Tekin because it is the easiest to tune and the customer support is by far the best in the industry. The new 2.55 software makes the Tekin Gen2 escs equally smooth as any other brand on the market. You can top it off with the RS Gen2 being the lightest esc on the market for stock racing at 20g without wires.

Tekin Gen 2 RS. Will do anything you want except run crazy low turn stuff.
Easier to mount.
Easier to solder.
Easier to program (phone app) or just use the buttons and buy nothing.
Best customer service in the industry.
Lighter.
No fans to implode and thermal your esc.
Personaly i hated both HW the I have.

You'll need to buy the carpet laydown kit, THEN you can buy the dirt laydown to use.
