A kid should be able to build a tt01 fine with a phillips screwdriver, some time, and a little earned frustration.


First hop-up is a toss-up, between ball bearings or metal drive shafts & propeller shaft.


IMO: For a first time build, a TL01 is a bit more simple and bulletproof.

Does anyone know a way to stop most of the play with the 5mm suspension balls? Will item # 54559(Low Friction Suspension Balls) be a better fit in the suspension arms?

Missing quite a few things is an understatement.

All total -

Parts Three A and D

A for the body post, D for the chassis brace that between the picture posted on CL and when I picked up the car it was missing.

Had I known I needed D I could have maybe just worked with the stock plastic motor mount. But I bought A before D so I got a 3 Racing Alum motor mount.

I needed a body and wheels/tires for regular grip on-road driving.

All total said and done with paint and ESC = $200

Not sure if it's the screaming bargain someone said on URC. Considering it's still not done (98% painted, mirrors, wing, light bucket painting and installation all left).

Especially when I wanted a to get a TT-02 RTR with old shocks and ball bearings for $217 from Japan. If I had known I could get a package from Japan in about 8-10 working days I would have done it.

I but I got lured into building and get more rather than purchasing already built and spending more to get less.

So I got -

TT-01D Type E roller (somewhat) - $40
XV-01 Gazoo GT86 kit - $112 ($126 shipped with tax)
TT-01 Type E Evo VII Japan kit (no ESC) - $112 free ship and no tax (Amazon).

Total - $538

None of the more advanced chassis are available RTR, so I would have to put together the XV-01 anyway. Maybe I should have waited a little longer, I see among Tamiya 2016 releases there's going to be a re-re of the Subaru WRX Monte Carlo rally car on the TT-02 chassis.

No pictures yet so I don't know which body they are planning to use.

Anyway enough of the complaining -

Ive heard wrapping teflon around the balls can help remove it.

Thanks T.Wilks191. Adding teflon to the suspension balls sounds like a bit too much. I've ordered item # 54559 - Low Friction Suspension Ball. I will see how they fit. I will get back to you.

The TT-02 low friction suspension balls are a good fit in the TT-01. There's much much less play with the suspension in that area.

Hi all,
I'm a new proud owner of On-road car, using the TT-01E, meant for Bash\fun.. not for racing.
I've built the kit, as came in the box and I wish to upgrade it before using it for the first time.

Which oil should I use for the front\back differentials (from the kit)?
Which oil should I use in the shocks?

I was thinking:
- Order the Yeah Racing Aluminum Conversion Kit Ultimate Version (understood that the color don't have any performance different)
- Metal Motor Mount (#53666)
- Low Friction Suspension Ball (#54559, as suggested by GuyIsDamGood)
- TrackStar ROAR approved 1/10th Stock Class Brushless ESC and Motor Combo (13.5T)
- TrackStar™ TS-915 Digital 1/10 Touring Car/Buggy Steering Servo 10.1kg / 0.08sec / 45g

- I'll connect it with my Sanwa MT4 transmitter.
- Will drive it using ZIPPY 5000mAh 2S1P 30C Hardcase Pack (ROAR APPROVED)

Any thoughts, ideas, other recommendations I need to consider?

One thing I just realized, I think you will need a "stick pack" battery for this car, due to the shape of the battery enclosure.

I don't think the TT-01-E has sealed differentials.
If it doesn't you can put Anti-wear Grease in the differentials (you can use any amount you need in each diff).

Can someone recommend gearing for a 13.5T brushless motor? Will be running 13.5T for a short while, then probably run 21.5T.
Just picked up the one below for my son, I have a 13.5T combo I want to use for a short while.

Our local hobbytown just got an order of the new team hahn semi kits. We are starting a brand new strictly box stock entry level carpet road course class and use these as the base models. Only allowed upgrade are bearings. Within a week they flew off the shelves. I did mine up as optimus prime and a buddy's in classic gulf livery

That looks awesome! I love the way the front ends skip; it make it look like real semi trucks racing. Glad to see the TT01 still racing. I wish there were a stock class like that near me. ...I wish there was an on-road track near me.

I know how you feel. They closed the on-road track here in N.Y.C. I ran and raced(bashed) the TT-01 at the track. It's school-yard racing time.
