You charge them at 2.7amps, they'll get very hot, much hotter than they'e supposed to. You will find the cycle life is very short charging them at this high of a rate.
I consider 1amp a max charge rate for any size AA. I charge my AAs at 0.5 amps (slow charge) as much as I can.
