All I was told is they get a salary from who they drive for. Learn something new everyday 
Factory drivers get a salary plus bonuses or just a bonus it comes down to what level you are on what team A,B,C etc. Losi drivers get an amount for TQing, winning or just placing well they also get money for winning with losi tires etc. So at a World event in offroad you can clean up if you win.
