Sorry to dig this up again but I was rewiring my sxx last night and I had this thought.

Would it be possible/sensible to have the PCB holes open on one side in a U shape like the X12 motors instead of having closed holes? It would be a lot easier to solder that way and I'm guessing there would not be any significant loss
