In a business point of view, with the onslaught of online website sales and mail order services, I am not sure a traditional brick and mortar hobby shop is still a viable business to begin with.
An adjacent track run by the hobby shop is great to attract people but running and maintaining a track is very costly and only a big hobby shop can afford it. But as a hobby shop grew bigger and stock more stuffs, its overhead cost also grew proportionally which will eat in to its profits.
