I still don't understand it though. What was the root cause of the binding? I tried 2 different racks and both had the exact same problem in the same spot.
Why was my steering fine for quite a while and then *BAM* it had high spots causing binding? Was it really the rack that deformed or was it somthing else and the sanding just masked the problem?
Total freaking mystery.

well all the steering racks are made from the same tooling... you might want to change to an aftermarket alluminum rack... that is what i did and my steering has been perfect ever since!
