Dont forget to check your linkage setup, make sure the carb is not closing while applying the brakes or letting off the throttle.
I have seen where the idle gap would be fine at idle, then when throttled and let off, the carb would spring back closed or almost closed then it would return.
This could cause problems also.
You do not want carb play beyond(behind) the idle gap.
