The whole 44 vs 46 thing is weird. I have been running 46 with the stock diff and outdrives for quite some time and everything is fine.
I have all the parts to build a sweet new diff (Aluminum outdrives, 416 screw/nut, TRF201 balls & plates for thrust bearing, etc.), but the stocker just won't fail.
