Comparing it to setting up a chassis?
Seriously?
C'mon Granpa, you're a bright guy and you know that is apples and oranges.
Don't want to argue with you Craig, but VooDoo is VooDoo no matter if it's applied to the chassis or the motors or the tire and insert combinations. And let's face it, it takes all three plus more to run like Rod does. If you don't believe me go back and read his last post.
Have you read the Tamiya article on Rod C's set up????? It took knowledge, brain power, persistance, hard work, and chassis VooDoo to come up with that stuff. Also $$$$ and a willingness to do all the Fussy, nitpicky stuff to keep his car performing. Don and Lee P are like that also. Maybe that's why they usually run up front.
Me, I'm a cheap SOB so I take care of the motors cause in the long run it's cheaper. The motor Danny used to win Mini this weekend was over three years old. Steve and Max were using motors that I believe I "tuned" a couple of years ago. You can usually find 540 Js for about $15, and if you clean them every 10 runs or so, $30 will cover your motor budget for the year.
