I'm a BTCC buff.

the Lexus IS200 was in the BTC-spec rules, later (post 2001) compared to Super Touring of the 90s. HPI do/did the Lexus body.

In mainland Europe, Nissan and Opel tried RWD and 4WD versions of the Primera and Cavalier/Vectra, but had problems with transfer boxes not handling the power from the 2.0 engines and slick tyres. Andy Rouse and Ford tried the same transfer box method with the first incarnation of the Mondeo V6 making it RWD, but gave up because of transmission losses.

In racing during the Super Touring days of the BTCC, the only raced 4WD car was the Audi Sport UK A4s (which were weighted up with success ballast, but still won). The only raced RWD car was BMW M3 and 318i's run by various teams, but officially with Schnitzer for BMW.
