gearless, it's my humble opinion to start with the firmer spring and go softer if you have to. My motto is run the stiffest spring you can get away with. The reason is that the harder spring you run the more corner speed you will carry through the turns.

The way I tell if my spring is too hard? If I know I've got the best tire/insert combo on the car for that particular track, yet the car wants to break loose too easily then I'll soften the springs up a little. I like to change the entire set of springs front and rear because if you soften the front only you'll lose steering, if you soften only the rear you will increase steering. Changing all 4 springs leaves the balance of the car the same.

Sometimes I will soften the springs if it seems to be overreactive in the turns (twitchy), or if the track is a rougher surface, but more times than not I have blue/blue or green/green on the car at all times. Anyway, everyone has a different take on it so give it a try and see what you think.
