i have been running avids now for a while, if you put a drop of 3in1 oil in between race days they will easily last a gallon a set. i take off the bell and de-burr the shoes (if necessary) 1 drop on the rear bearing, then put on the bell and the front bearing. 1 drop on the front bearing then spin it a few times. aahh, like new again. i did buy a set of teflon coated bearings on ebay but hey did not even last a tank before they exploded.
